
Father George Bliorțu moved to Glasgow in 2009 and, from the beginning, helped Father Marcel at church services, sang in the choir and took care of the Holy Altar and the church.
When Father Marcel returned to Romania, Father George was ordained a deacon and later became the priest for our parish. Father George graduated from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Arad and is currently the confessor of our school.
Father Ioan is a Scotsman with a love for Romania, who hails from the Isle of Arran off the west coast of Scotland. Father Ioan was first a member of the parish, then, while assisting at the holy altar, he studied theology at the Institute of Orthodox Christian Studies in Cambridge. Later, he was ordained a reader, then served as a subdeacon before being ordained a deacon in the parish.
After serving faithfully as a deacon in the parish for several years, Father Ioan was ordained a priest by His Eminence Metropolitan Joseph in March 2023. Taking a special interest in the history of the early Church, he enjoys trying to bring this period to life for the faithful, especially for the youth of our parish. A lover of nature and rural life, Father Ioan and preotasa Andrea live in a small village in the hills south of Glasgow with their three yopung daughters: Theodora, Anastasia, and baby Maria

Daniela Ciupală is a member of the Presentation Of Our Lord” parish, who has been involved in the life of the Romanian community in Scotland by organizing events, conferences with personalities from Romania, Romanian language courses for children and other celebrations. Daniela has been teaching Romanian as a foreign language for over 10 years at the Romanian Cultural Institute in London, at the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at other British government institutions.
Daniela obtained her Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Teaching from the University of Glasgow and completed her Master of Education in Professional Practice at the same university. Daniela is also qualified as a teacher of religion with the first didactic degree. In Romania, Daniela taught Religion for 16 years at primary and secondary school, and in Scotland she taught ‘Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies’ for 3 years at state schools in Glasgow.
Daniela will coordinate the organization and teaching of Romanian language and religion courses, children’s celebrations and conferences, activities related to cultural exchanges and will also coordinate the events related to the inauguration of the Romanian School of “St. Nicholas” in Glasgow.
Anna Bliorțu is an active member of the parish and has a rich experience in organizing activities and events for the Romanian community.
She participated in all events organized for children in the parish. Anna obtained her Master of Social Science Diploma from the University of Glasgow and has specialist studies in accounting. Anna currently works in finance.
Alina has lived in Scotland since 2008 and is a core member of the Romanian community in Glasgow. With their two children, Alina and her husband are involved in all the activities organized in the parish. Pastry chef by passion, Alina makes delicious cakes and pastries that are always appreciated at parish events. Currently, Alina works as a social worker on counseling issues and wants to organize courses to initiate children into the art of baking.
Georgiana and Bogdan are a family created in Edinburgh, Scotland from two Moldovans with roots firmly in the countryside in Romania. Now residing in the countryside near Kinross, Fife, Georgiana works as a nurse in a nursing home and he has many passions such as gardening and cake making. Daily life involves raising three children in a healthy, organic and religious environment.
Their family has always been involved in various activities related to Romanian traditions and crafts, with the church community in Glasgow becoming their second family. They have a loom in the living room, a sewing machine in the house, a haystack in the yard, lots of birds, and a greenhouse and garden where they grow lots of healthy vegetables. They want to continue with church activities so that their children can grow up speaking the Romanian language and learn Romanian traditions.
Georgiana and Bogdan can create certain traditional and craft workshops where they can involve the children of the parish in different activities to teach them how to bake bread and cakes, how to weave a rug at traditional loom, how to embroider a tablecloth and how to sow seeds and plant them to enjoy fresh vegetables later.
Raluca has lived in Scotland since 2007 with her husband and their three children. She is a volunteer assistant teacher at a primary school in her locality. She has been present and active at all events organized within the Romanian church in Glasgow since 2009. Having a passion for crochet, she tries to inspire both children and adults with the beauty of handicrafts.
Raluca frequently takes part in various fairs and exhibitions organized by both the Scottish and Romanian communities, where she can share the art of crochet. Occasionally, it teaches those interested how to create beautiful and useful things. These events take place both during Easter, Christmas, Romanian national days, as well as on Sundays at church. Raluca will organize crochet classes for the children of the parish.
Andrei has been part of the parish for 6 years and is a respected member of the Romanian community. Together with his wife and three sons – David-Efrem, Raphael and Ioan-Casian – Andrei promotes Romanian values and traditions in all aspects of life.
Andrei is actively involved in organizing community events and brings a technological approach to promoting them. Through his understanding of the community, he contributes to strengthening ties between Romanians in Glasgow, promoting authenticity and solidarity. Thanks to his technical skills, he takes care of the parish website, ensuring that he provides the necessary information in an organized and updated way.
Mihaela is a nurse by profession and has been living in Glasgow with her family for more than 13 years. She has two sons, Andrei (20) and David (10), and her full-time job is as a mother, wife, cook, driver, counselor and everything else needed for her family and community. Mihaela strongly believes that all problems have a solution if you have faith in God and patience to find it.
Mihaela helps organize all celebrations and activities for children.
Ecaterina lives in Glasgow with her husband and their two children: Maya (8 years old) and Matei (5 years old). Ecaterina is a reliable member of the Romanian community in Glasgow who we can always count on.
For Ecaterina, family and children’s education are very important, that’s why Ecaterina is the soul together with the other members of our school to organize all the events and activities proposed for children.
